 The United Nations began celebrating International Women's Day in the International Women's Year, 1975. On March 8, 1911, this celebration was held for the first time by millions of people in Europe. Later on March 8, 1917 in the city of Petrograd (Russian Empire) women workers started a demonstration that marked the beginning of the Russian Revolution. They demanded "bread and peace." 

We celebrate International Women's Day to commemorate the movement for Women's rights.
